The most significant health concern for the breed. HCM causes the heart muscle to thicken abnormally and is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in cats.
Ragdolls have a higher-than-average tendency to develop urinary stones, which can cause pain, blockages, and may require surgical removal.
Their relaxed, indoor lifestyle and large frame make Ragdolls prone to weight gain, which places additional strain on the heart and joints.
Like most cats, Ragdolls are susceptible to periodontal disease without regular teeth cleaning and annual veterinary dental checks.
While not breed-specific, Ragdolls can be more vulnerable to FIP than some other cats. Early diagnosis is critical.

Ask your Ragdoll’s breeder for HCM screening certificates for both parents. An echocardiogram is recommended for adult Ragdolls every one to two years to monitor heart health.
