On Sunday 24 May, more than 1,600 Canberrans, over 800 dogs (plus one very charming Shetland pony) came together for the very first Canberra Paws Walk. It was our first event as the newly launched RSPCA Pet Insurance, and we couldn’t have asked for a better welcome.
From wagging tails and friendly faces to community spirit everywhere you looked, it was one of those days that reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

A first for Canberra
The first-ever Canberra Paws Walk was all about bringing people, pets, and the local community together to support RSPCA ACT — and Canberra certainly showed up.
We loved meeting so many pet parents (and, of course, their furry companions), hearing their stories and speaking about the role pet insurance can play when the unexpected happens. It was also a great chance to share how every RSPCA Pet Insurance policy helps support the RSPCA’s vital animal welfare work.
The day in numbers
It was a big day for Canberra’s pet-loving community. Here’s a quick look at the numbers behind the day:

It takes a lot of people to bring an event like this to life, and it was wonderful to see everyone working together to create such a welcoming day for pets and their people.
Meeting Canberra’s pet lovers
If you stopped by our tent, chances are your dog left with a treat, or at least a drink of water. Our tent — complete with pet hydration stations, treats, travel bowls and some funky poop bag holders — quickly became one of the places people gravitated towards.
There were dogs of every size, families enjoying the sunshine, and plenty of conversations about pets, life, and how we can all help give our furry family members the care they deserve.
One attendee summed it up perfectly, calling it “a lovely day at a beautifully run event.” We couldn’t agree more.
What we took away
For us, the best part of the day wasn’t the numbers, it was the conversations we had. We met so many passionate pet lovers, answered plenty of questions, and had the chance to introduce more people to RSPCA Pet Insurance and how we’re helping to protect pets while supporting the RSPCA’s important work. It’s exactly the kind of community we’re proud to be part of.

If this year’s Canberra Paws Walk is anything to go by, we have a feeling it’s only going to get bigger and better in the years to come. We’ll definitely be back, and we can’t wait to do it all again.
